Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka, who got stunned by Tennys Sandgren in the Australian Open, has defeated Serbian tennis player Viktor Troicki in the quarter finals of Sofia Open.
The 32-year-old reached the semi-finals of Sofia Open with a straight set win against Troicki 6-1 7-6(3) and hinted that he is improving from his knee injury.
“It was a great match, I played better than I expected,” said Wawrinka, aiming to clinch his first title since winning the Geneva Open in May.
“I’m improving every day, I’m moving better and I’m serving better. I think my level is getting better.”
The former world no.3 Wawrinka will take on Mirza Basic of Bosnia in the semi-final of the tournament. Mirza entered the semis after defeating Maximilian Marterer 6-4 4-6 6-3 in the quarters.
