Legendary Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has shared that Virat Kohli-led side is India’s best in fast bowling and fielding but it not the best in batting.
After securing a historic series win against Australia in Australia, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his men garnered widespread praise for an amazing performance, ending a 71-year wait.
When asked if this current Indian team is the best of all-time, Ian Chappell shared, “This Indian side is the best fast bowling contingent I have seen from India and the best fielding side that I have seen from India. But it is not the best batting side. I have seen better batting combinations from India than this team.”
Chappell believed that he has seen better combinations in the past too and shared that for once, it was the Indian bowling attack that overshadowed the Indian batting line-up.
The visiting pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami combined for an average of 21.62 in the four-match Test series, while Australia’s pace-bowling attack, comprising Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins, averaged over 30.
Former Australian cricketer also shared that Indian bowlers were better than their Australian counterparts and they exploited the conditions really well.
“I thought the Indian bowlers did really well and overall they out-classed the Australians. They got more swing than the Australian bowlers. I think the seam position of the Indian fast bowlers was very good. They kept it up the whole time and perhaps that is why they swung the ball more than the Australian bowlers.”
Both the sides will now square off against each other in the upcoming One-Day International series, starting from January 12 in Sydney.
