After successfully conducting a full-fledged women's league in the Australian Big Bash this season, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to conduct a tri-series for the women counterparts during the ongoing men's Indian Premier League (IPL).
The inaugural season for the women's challenge saw two teams – Supernovas and Trailblazers, compete in a one-off match. Harmanpreet Kaur led Supernovas won the match by 3 wickets in a last over thriller against Smriti Mandhana's Trailblazers.
This season comprises of three teams where Mithali Raj will be leading the third team, Velocity. Over a period of six days, a tri-series will be conducted and the top two teams will play the finals. All the games will be played at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh stadium.
The first fixture will see Kaur and Mandhana's teams lock horns against each other on Monday, May 6. The next game will be played between Trailblazers and Velocity on May 8 and the last game will be on May 9 between Velocity and Supernovas. The finals will be held on May 11.
It will be a great opportunity for youngsters to learn and perform under pressure with such diversity in the squads. Apart from the Indian talent on showcase, there are several overseas players who will be competing in the tournament.
