Though Murali Vijay’s time in the Indian team wasn’t a pleasant one in past few months, but the Chennai based player has had a dream start to his county career.
Vijay was selected for the first two Tests against England but a poor run of form coming from the South Africa tour to the much recent England tour made his stay short in the national side.
The 34 year old veteran batter made a choice of reviving his game by signing a year’s contract for Essex in the County Championship.
Vijay opened the innings with Nick Browne on his County debut against Nottinghamshire. He scored 59 off 95 balls with nine fours during his 136-run minute stay at the crease. His knock helped Essex finish on 233 and earn a 56-run first innings lead.
What happened in the second innings was an upgrade to Murali Vijay’s performance as he scored a match winning hundred alongside Tom Westley who also scored a ton. The duo established a 204 run stand which was pivotal in registering a win against Nottingamshire.
Essex finished the first innings on 233 runs and earned a 56-run first innings lead. Contributions from all batsmen helped the Nottingamshire finish on 337 and set a target of 282-run target in the Division One game. Essex won the game with ease as they had 8 wickets in the bag.
