India star wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, has been ruled out of World Championship with an elbow injury. She picked up the injury during practice in Lucknow. Phogat, gold medallist in 18th edition of Asian Games at Jakarta, was to compete in 50kg category and a favourite for the medal.
“It is a big setback for us. During sparring she injured her elbow and the MRI scans done in Mumbai revealed the ligaments are torn. It will be very risky to compete in the Worlds,” a WFI official said.
The World Championship is touted to commence from October 20- October 28 at Budapest. Following Vinesh's absence, the Wrestling Federation will now have to look out for her replacement.
